You're right; wrong neuron fired...

DOM AS exposes most of the features which the DOM WG believes will be
common to any schema language (including DTDs). It's intended to be
extendable/subclassable to handle specific kinds of schemas. There have
been back-of-the-envelope attempts to sketch out an API specifically for
XML Schemas as a way of cross-checking the basic AS design... but I haven't
heard whether/when anyone intends to nail down that layer as a formal
proposal in its own right.
