This has nothing to do with the DOM.  Any \r\n sequence will always be
normalized to a single \n in all conforming XML processors.  The only
way that a \r can "get past" the parser and to the application is to
use a character reference ala &#13;, etc.  See Section 2.11 of the spec
for the required behavior.
