Just a thought.... To ensure simpler transition from Xerces2.0.1 to Xerces 2.2.1+, is it possible to make the namespace switchable ? - default can be off for backward compatability with DOM L1. I have noticed the setNamespace(boolean) method, but that is marked as deprecated. The DOMWriterImpl API is somewhat different to XMLSerializer, and is not as rich - for example, no control is provided via an OutputFormat object - and most methods are marked experimental and hence may change further.
