Andy, since you are the ASF rep to JSR-173, can you take this feedback
to the expert group? I'm concerned that it is very close to a final
approval ballot to be raising these concerns. Neil and Elena, did your
concerns get voiced via IBM's rep to JSR 173?
When I joined the expert group, the basic model of the
API had already been set and agreed upon. From that point,
only minor changes were made. So most of my dramatic
suggestions to change the API were voted against by the
other members of the group. Democracy in action. But I
still don't have to like it. ;)
If the feedback has been ignored by the expert group, we can make a case
for the ASF to vote no on the JSR, but if we haven't done a good job in
making timely feedback we may have lost our chance. If we want an ASF
no vote, the proper venue is [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Feedback from the Toronto folks in regard to implementation
concerns is going to be key in determining whether I vote
"no" on the API. It will probably pass anyway but at least
the opinion of the Apache Xerces project will be on record.
I was kind of hoping that this thread would get more of
the Xerces users to post their thoughts about what they
want in a pull API. I may follow up with some musings of
my own.
