Hi Dave,

Performance is exactly the reason we do it this way--that and the fact that
this is how it's almost always been done in Xerces releases.  We don't have
any hard data on how much better the performance is though; this would
certainly be interesting to get.

Does anyone know why Xerces comes as an uncompressed jar?  Most jar files
are compressed, so I'm wondering if Xerces releases are done that way on
purpose, perhaps for performance reasons?
