Get the "Winter XML Pack" from Sun and unpack it. Then put "xerces.jar" in your CLASSPATH. "xerces.jar" as shipped by Sun in the XML pack now includes "jaxp". Previously, Sun shipped a separate "jaxp.jar". I have not tested on 1.2, but it works fine on JDK 1.3.1 for Solaris.
