For Xerces2 it doesn't matter if its file, http, https protocol. Its all hidden, it uses java.net.URL class to make connections and that class internally delegates it to specific stream protocol handlers based on protocol. > The parser reports a general error Failed to read schema document Well, there can be many reasons, if your document is on net and you use proxy server, you need to specify proxyHost and proxyPort , as it is "https" connection it may fail while handshake etc.. etc.. > 'https://...'.
