joe - a little off topic, but what is "org.apache.PACKAGENAMEorTOOLNAME.Version" ...
we have developed a mechinism to version all class files and would like to know more about the above mentioned ...

org.apache.xalan.Version.main() (prints version number to the screen) or
the other methods in that class such as getVersion() (returns the version
number as a string).
We've been trying to popularize org.apache.PACKAGENAMEorTOOLNAME.Version
as an Apache standard. So far, uptake has been a bit slower than we'd
like.
