More or less. They had to stop at some point; Document is where they drew the line. There's nothing wrong with higher-level protocols when you have to transmit multiple documents; if it happens often enough, someone can propose a standard for it...

Such thing would limit the higher-level protocols of having their own way to separate (whatever) documents. Why can't you create your own "DocumentSeparator" iterface and have implementations for whatever higher-level protocols you need to obtain input streams which will terminate where it is needed.


It is not job of the XML spec to define such thing, IMO.
