Jason, I have been having mail problems, so I may have missed your response. I'm curious if you saw my note regarding the cause of my build failures on RH6.2? In short, the towupper() C library routine is badly broken if locale of "C" (default if no LANG setting) is set.
I've reconfirmed that this is not a problem on RH7.1 (and, presumably, newer) With the newer distribution, it simply fails a small handful of character conversions (to be expected) with no core dumps or other badness.
