Peter, Many thanks for the information, especially for the OTF/TTF vs -x -j etc matter. I agree that the manual will have to be updated, or adapted (since there appear to be fundamental differences between the packages as regards font naming) but since xetex-microtype is at such an early stage of development, we'll have to make do for the time being.
