Minimal example:
% !TEX TS-program = XeLaTeX
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{fontspec}
\setmainfont{Linux Libertine O}
%\newfontfamily\LM{\fontspec{Luxi Mono}} % fails if uncommented
Try this (I don't have your font, so can't test):
\newfontfamily\LM{Luxi Mono}
load options for \LM as desired with the definition or using \fontspec
in the doc.
