different possibilities.

But still, I can't figure out how to get, for example: ar-raǧulu al-ʿarabiyyu, 
or al-raǧulu
al-ʿarabiyyu from any of the possible combinations in ArabTeX input convention.

As for the article with a solar initial, do I have to type: "al-rra^gulu" or 
"ar-ra^gulu"?
"ar-ra^gulu" works for transliteration, but gives an absurd "ارر" in Arabic. 
"al-rra^gulu"
works for Arabic, but gives an absurd "al-rraǧulu" in transliteration...

For "al-ʿarabiyyu", that is to say with a mandatory šadda over the yāʾ, you 
have to type:
"al-`arabiyyu"; this works in Arabic, but gives a wrong "al-ʿarabīyyu" in 
transliteration,
with a long ī...

One last remark: I think that the only way to get the waṣla with arabxetex in 
full
vocalization mode is to type 'l- (single quotation mark, then l letter, then 
hyphen), which
seems to indicate that you are stuck with "al-rra^gulu" or 'l-rra^gulu, knowing 
that
both give wrong results in transliteration mode.
