How do I do that on Ubuntu GNU/Linux? At the moment I have:

$ cat .fonts.conf
<?xml version='1.0'?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>

        <dir>/usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/fonts/opentype</dir>
