XeTeX has an -output-directory=DIR command line option. I hope all
output will go there.

This does indeed work as hoped, but it introduces two new problems, one of which I have solved (TeX no longer finds the generated auxiliary files -- solution : add parent directory of output directory and all sub-directories thereof to TEXINPUTS.xetex in "texmf.cnf") and one of which is causing real problems : TeXworks no longer knows where the output file is, so no longer refreshes the previewer after a successful compilation. Can anyone advise how to work around this, please ?
