When you create a new folder/new file, Thunar asks for a name. In this dialog,
the name is selected automatically. As a result, the primary selection ("middle
click paste" buffer) is changed to "New folder" or "New file".
Common practice is that automatically selected text should not interfere with
the primary selection. Only manually selected text should.
