As described in this thread below, I would like to know if its possible (even
by modifying the source code) to achieve smaller padding/spacing like in Caja
from Mate.

Its not really a BUG, but Moderator from XFCE Forums suggested that I could
create a BUG report because there is no easy answer to my question.
