There is already an option for that, its called "hidden-devices" in the
xfce4-setting-editor .
If you right-click on some free space at the very button of the ShortcutPane,
you can toggle the visibility of specific devices.

This works well for me when using "sudo thunar" and it seems not to interfer
with my user settings.
