Not really an answer to the question but I hadn't noticed the issue until
you mentioned it as I scroll on the panel icon to change volume.

As I haven't seen any other mentions of it I wonder if it is a problem for
many people. I suspect most people do as I do or more likely use volume
hotkeys. Personally I find the slider difficult to use.

I'll be interested to see what others think.
