Red Top? I'm unfamiliar with that one. >None will show me a display on my LG Electronics Studioworks 700S >Monitor. 17 inch. Radeon 7500 is supported by XFree86 4.2.0 and later. As long as the OS you're using supports XFree86 4.2.0 or later, then the Radeon All in Wonder 7500 should work out of the box. Note however, that not all features of the card are supported by the stock XFree86 release. >I do not mean to have an "attitude" here but Gee Whiz, I spent a lot of >money on this state of the art system. Generally, if you're looking for any sort of help on an open forum such as this one, and have an attitude or are negative, you probably wont get any help. Being negative or having an attitude at best, just makes people who might have potentially decided to help you decide to just hit delete and go on to other email. Remember, everyone here is a volunteer, and volunteers do not 'owe' anyone anything. Volunteers contribute what they feel like contributing on their own time, be it source code, documentation, or perhaps helping people on mailing lists such as this one. Attacking those volunteers only stands to restrict how much anyone is willing to help you. >I love the Open Source concept and was so looking forward to >being a part of it. But I have to SEE it. So far in your message all you've done is provide minimal detail and some complaining. >How come after 10 years XFree86 can not solve the ATI issue. What ATI issue? The XFree86 open source ATI video drivers are among the best open source video drivers in the entire XFree86 project, and support almost all of ATI's video hardware, and most (but not all) of the features on that hardware. >After all, ATI is almost an Industrial Standard When it comes to >Video Capture cards. There are actually video drivers available which are open source and support the ATI All in Wonder hardware. You seem more interested however in ranting and complaining to would-be volunteers than explaining the exact problem you're having however, which doesn't provide a volunteer with much reason to want to help you. At least not as long as you cop an attitude like this. >I have loaded Win'95, Win'98, Win M, Win XP with ATI capture >cards and they have all worked perfectly and Flawless. NO >PROBLEMS. So what's up with Linux? Do we wait another ten years? >I don't think ATI or Microsoft will wait. They will move on. Nobody is twisting your arm or forcing you to use Linux. If you're unable to get something working in Linux, and are satisfied with Microsoft Windows, by all means, use the operating system and software which works best for you. Ranting like this doesn't get you anywhere. >I am about ready to give up on Linux too. Just say "Forget it ! >! !" and throw Linux to the wind with it's XFree86. Write it off >as one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences of >my life of 47 years. And move on. Again, nobody is forcing you to use Linux. Use whatever works for you the best. >But I still have hope, that somebody will help me. I have >searched the web and there I learned that this ATI issue Is >nothing old or unique. The web is full of ATI video card owners >with this same problem. This is not very impressive. You still have not actually told anyone WHAT problem it is that you are having in any amount of sufficient detail. I have learned via experience, that if someone is ranting and raving like you are, it is best to just ignore them than to try and help them. The reason is, despite one's best efforts to help someone who starts out complaining like this, they tend to hold on to this negativity, and drill it into the volunteer who *could* possibly help them. What kind of benefit does a volunteer receive from hearing someone they're trying to help just complain endlessly? Zero. There are tonnes of other people out there whom are just as in need of help, and whom are much more pleasant to try to help. >I ask again, If MS Windows (All versions) can do it since 1994, >How come XFree86 can't. Well, that's a rather silly question really. Microsoft Windows is produced by Microsft, which is a multi-billion dollar company, of whom has some 90-95% or more of the computer operating system market, pretty much cornering the desktop. XFree86 on the other hand, is a windowing system not tied to a specific OS, but which is most widely used on Linux and BSD operating systems. While Linux is greatly improving on the desktop, and will continue to do so more and more as time goes on, Linux and BSD OSs have never before consumed a large part of the desktop market space, and at this point in time still do not. XFree86 is a volunteer ran project, one that is non-profit driven. XFree86 is not written by a multi-billion dollar corporation by Microsoft whom has money to burn. The video drivers that are in XFree86 are there because the developers were lucky enough to get specifications for various video hardware from different vendors over the years, or because some vendor wrote code and contibuted it in charity, or because some vendor or some other company decided to fund video driver development for whatever their own personal reasons were over time. The code is largely volunteer driven however, and as I've said above, multi-billion dollar companies are not dumping money into XFree86. >Please help me and try to understand or overlook my frustrations. Your frustrations are much better spent yelling into a pillow instead and then coming to this list without the attitude, and being very friendly and polite to the people here if you're looking for volunteers to help you for free. I very much enjoy helping people, and I spend a large portion of my personal time doing so for free. I do not however tend to help people unless they are friendly, polite, and co-operative, and able to provide detailed information about the problem it is that they are having. Nonetheless, I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulties with your video card under Linux, and I wish you the best of luck in resolving the problem. -- Mike A.
