Make sure the xfs font server is running at startup properly. this isn't an XFree86 bug, but is a misconfiguration of your system of some kind. It is possible this is due to font configuration modifications you've done, or a full /tmp partition, or it is also possible due to a bug in a recent version of kdebase which was released as erratum and affects some users systems. Make sure all fonts.dir files in your font directories are mode 0644. -- Mike A.
