Hi Xperts, I'm trying to get XFree 4.2.1 working in a toshiba 3000 x4 laptop.
I boot in graphics mode from lilo (vga=788 -> 800x600, what suse selected by default, this works until X changes the mode, it won't be restored correctly later on). After some twiddling XFree86 works fine in 1024x768, but i cannot get mode switching to work properly, any other resolutions (including switching to the graphical VT) will result on the image being "compressed" vertically (it doesn't fill all the vertical dimension of the screen, and some lines are missing from the screen), centered vertically and displaced horizontally to the right, so a good chunk of the screen is not visible. I know the description ain't that great, but I hope it's enough. Since it looks (to me, admittedly a newbie configuring Xfree) like some modeline problem i tried sticking some freq's i found in the web (semi official toshiba support page) in my XFree86Config to no avail. I'm including it in case it helps. I also tried to run xvidtune, but it ends abruptly with a Floating Point Exception before showing any gui, the offending code is in xvidtune.c, line 403 where it divides by 0 (AppRes.field[HTotal].val). I tried XFree86 CVS, the problem is still there. It's even worse, since when you switch terminals nothing the screen goes completely black, although it doesn't hang, i can still use the keyboard and write 'reboot' :-) The alpha blended cursors are cute, though ;-) Well, I hope someone has some idea, the bug is not critical but it's pretty annoying, since I cannot play Quake (too slow in 1024x768) :-).
