I have never posted a message on a mailing list
before, so I don't know how to head the letter or anything.
Anyway, here's the problem:
I had XFree86-4.2.1 installed and running just fine
about a week ago. I decided that it was time to try to install the DRI drivers,
so I went ahead and got the packages, installed them, and then X stopped
working. I ended up giving up with 4.2.1 and upgrading to 4.2.99.3 and I get the
same error. Here's what I get when I try to startx (this is from
/var/log/XFree86.0.log):

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send the full server output, not just the last messages. This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log". Please report problems to [EMAIL PROTECTED]. XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection

after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events
remaining.
The last line XIO was not in the log file, but it
is output on the screen when I attempt to startx. I don't think it has anything
to do with my problem since it only appears when I startx and not just
X.
I'm thinking this is a problem with a library or
something, but I'm not sure. I can't figure out what's causing the read() to
fail.
