Hi all,

I'm a new user under linux and I'm trying to work with it. Now I'm
trying to enable the DRI with my ATI rage 128:

#lspci
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 RF/SG
AGP

I have a 2.4.18 XFS linux kernel, and I'm running under a Gentoo v1.2.
A month ago I have the 4.2.0 XFree86 X Server.

At the first time I installed the kernel DRM to activate DRI, but with
the Rage128 kernel driver I have had repainting problems and with that
drm-kernel version DRI didn't work:

(EE) R128(0): [dri] R128DRIScreenInit failed because of a version
mismatch.
[dri] r128.o kernel module version is 2.1.6 but version 2.2 or greater
is needed.
[dri] Disabling the DRI.
(EE) R128(0): [drm] failed to remove DRM signal handler
DRIUnlock called when not locked

Then I download that kernel drm:

http://www.xfree86.org/~alanh/

I compile it (Makefile.linux) and I got:
-rw-r--r-- 1 netfox users 15308 02-01 15:12 r128_cce.o
-rw-r--r-- 1 netfox users 80020 02-02 14:03 r128_drv.o
-rw-r--r-- 1 netfox users 116784 02-02 14:03 r128.o
-rw-r--r-- 1 netfox users 24680 02-01 15:12 r128_state.o

I only put the module at the correct dir:

/lib/modules/2.4.18-xfs/kernel/drivers/char/drm/r128.o

And I load the module:
#modprobe r128

DRI Works fine and I haven't rapainting problems.

(But... what are other files?
I have to overwrite r128_drv.o at
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o ?
And... what are r128_cce.o and r128_state.o files ? )

Now, the problem is that I install that XFree86 version:

XFree86 Version 4.2.1 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
Release Date: 3 September 2002

With this version, when I active the DRI with last mentioned r128.o
driver I get a Segmentation Fault with some applications. I think only
the applications who need Open GL are crashing. If I try to change
r128_drv.o that I have with de XFree86 for the r128_drv.o that I get
compiling drm-kernel I get some errors and DRI doesn't work.

What can I do to enable DRI without getting Segmentation faults?

Thnks for advanced!
