I've made some headway in using randr. With Xvesa, you cannot use the
default 640x480 mode that comes up on my system; apparently you must use
8 bit or better depth to get any randr functionality at all.

Now, I am looking to play with the Intel 82815 - apparently, it doesn't
support vesa real well.

Any thoughts/guidance on how to use an i810-type chipset in vesa mode?
Does it work, is it a lost cause?

Thanks,
