Maybe I'll speak non-sense, but the problem dose not appear to be your graphic card. Just add a plain 2-button serial mouse if yours is not detected and check that X starts OK with that. If so, your problem will definetly not be the graphic card (kill the server with Ctrl-Alt-BS). If the server crashes again, check for line beginning in '(EE)' (without the quotes) and investigate with the first error message.
