when using the xfree86 3.3.X series i had no trouble with color allocation and could easily display xpms in the root window. since upgrading to 4.2.X i am unable to set a root window image and get many messages about X being unable to allocate colors.
Before i compile 4.3.0, i wanted to find out what i might have done wrong in compiling or configuring 4.3.0, or whether the ported trident driver (8900C chipset VGA board) is at fault.
