This is my first bug report of any kind, so I'm afraid I may leave out some
details. If I can provide you with any more useful information, I'd be happy to.
Just let me know.
I recently upgraded XFree86 from 4.2.1 to 4.3.0. I was disappointed to find that
I could no longer switch my KVM switch to another computer and come back without
losing control of my mouse. I had kept my 4.2.1 installation backed up for just
such a contingency and when I switched to it, I confirmed that using the same
config file, even the same entire /etc/X11 directory, 4.2.1 allows the mouse to
be disconnected while the new version does not. This is an irritation as it
would require me to purchase a more expensive KVM if I want to use the new
Xfree86. I am certain that it isn't a problem with my config files because I
tried using the new /etc/X11 directory with the old /usr/X11R6 and that
combination worked. I have tried using the "PS/2" protocol, but that didn't work
either. I have tried tweaking a few other things as well such as adding the
"CorePointer" option to the serverlayout, nothing has helped. I hope this can be
resolved. My setup information follows
Linux Kernel: 2.4.20
Distribution: Debian woody/testing
mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 PS/2 and USB combatible (I use PS/2)
hardware: athlon 2000/ Asus A7V333 mobo
video card: Radeon 8500 (DRI doesn't work either, but that is a configuration
issue I have to figure out)
relevent sections of XFree86-4 :
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
EndSection
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen "Default Screen"
InputDevice "Generic Keyboard" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "Configured Mouse" "CorePointer"
EndSection
Let me know if there is any other useful information I could provide.
thanks
Greg Roth
