You're font servers isn't running. Either add paths to your font directories
or start your font server (xfs). Generally this is best done in your startup
scripts. Start with the man page for XFS and read the "see alsos". Also the
font de-uglification doc might be helpful.

Just found this, it looks really handy.
xfs Configuration
The /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs script starts the xfs server. Several options can
be configured in the /etc/X11/fs/config file: 
[...]
Restart xfs using the /sbin/service xfs restart command. You will also need
to restart your X session.
