dear XFREE86 crew! I installed lately slackware linux 8.1, and this is the first time I encounter linux.
I had installed also the X windows server that comes with the slackware installation. And I encountered some problems... I have a princeton graphics EO75 screen, and you can get information about it in, http://www.prgr.com/Support/SupportF.html and a S3 trio64v2 video card which has 1MB of memory. In windows it's maximum "mode" is 1152 by 256 colors, 60 Hz. though its max. in color terms is: 800 by 600, high color (16 bit) 85 hertz. this all on a p1 166 computer which is partitioned with Win 2000 prof. First, because of my technical equiptment I had selected as my screen no. 7 in the list: 7. 31.5-57.0 High frequency SVGA, 1024x768 @ 70 Hz -- the no. which fits my video card's maximum, though is way under my screen's capabilities. as my vertical sync. range I chose no.3 50-100 at the same circumstances as before. As my card memory I chose 1024 KB. I had chosen 16 bit colours though after a check not like my video card can in such resolution circumstances. the configuration succeeded, though when I came to run XFree86 the server said: "fatal server error: AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0" Afterwards I had selected colours as my card can, and when I ran XFree86 the upper half of my screen was black and the lower had shown pairs of white dots on a black backround , while a shape of an "X" emerged in black with a white dot border from the top half. WEIRD! Well, I searched the net, and I only found windows drivers for my screen, and nothing about the problem. thanks for the help, [EMAIL PROTECTED] P.S I don't know if this is crucial info. though the screen is old, but I put it only now on my computer and the windows had indentified the screen automatically. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
