Why purchase one of the most expensive possible video cards for use in a Linux system where it is currently completely unsupported, and merely 'might work for 2D only (or might not)' with an ugly hack of lying about the PCI ID in the config file? Especially when there are experts here clearly stating it isn't supported. ATI's binary drivers on their website also don't support this card (or didn't about 4 days ago at least), however there is a website in (Germany?) which has ATI drivers that support this card, although the name escapes me. If you're looking for ATI hardware with open source driver support that has working 3D, Radeon 8500 and 9000 are the highest supported cards right now. The 9500Pro and 9700 Pro are additionally supported 2D only right now. For complete details of unequivocal truth, examine the Radeon driver source code: xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/ati/radeon*.[ch] Hope this helps. TTYL -- Mike A.
