Machine: i586 Redhat: 9 XFree86: 4.3.0
Problem: Graphical interface fails to load
Background: Wiped drive of previous windows 98. Used wizard install for ISO downloads of Redhat 9. Installed Redhat, used it a week, GUI worked fine. Shutdown machine to take to friend. Rebooted at friends house using their monitor. Worked fine for another week. Shutdown machine to bring back to work. Now it will not load the X driver.
Start Up: all (OK), warning that /bin/cat has no space left on device Shut Down: all (OK), except sm-client fails to shut down
XFree86 error: Error loading key map /usr/X11R86/lib/X11/xkb/compiler/server-0.xkm 69%
/var/log/XFree86.0.log: Fatal server error: cannot load font 'fixed'
My background: novice
My research: tells me to load the most current version of Xfree86 (which I believe 4.3.0 is) or tells me to stop using Redhat (not an option just now) .
Help would be appreciated. I'm just not knowlegeable about Linux yet and am unsure where to start looking for possible solutions.
