Hello,

I'm trying to locate out a problem I'm having with XFree86 +
linux-2.6.0-test1. My goal is figure out what is causing the problem (
xfree86, linux kernel, packages, or a library) so that I can report the
bug to the right place. I'm looking for suggestions to help me figure out
where the bug is.

System:
 P4 Xeon
 Logitech optical mouse
 Debian testing/sid
 linux 2.5.75, 2.6.0-test1
 Debian testing/sid xfree86 4.2.1-6 and 4.2.1-9

Symptoms:

- Intermittently, the mouse "locks up". The mouse cursor no longer moves.
- The keyboard will sometimes lock up, but seperately from the mouse and
  not nearly as often.
- Switching virtual terminals from,to X returns functionality
- cat'ing /proc/bus/usb/devices frees the mouse
- un/re-plugging the mouse restores the mouse
- When the mouse is locked, I cannot read /dev/input/mice. When the mouse
is not locked, this is not the case: cat /dev/input/mice shows data.
- This does not occur with older linux kernels, 2.4.20 & 2.4.21
- I'm also having problems being able to switch back to the virtual
terminals from X. The VT screen contains the X screen, but corrupted, and
the VT text doesn't write over it, yet I know the VT is active because I
can type "reboot" and listen to my system shutdown.
- I haven't been able to reproduce this outside of X

It isn't obvious to me what is causing the problem. It seems, from the
outside, that either X or the kernel is locking the devices and preventing
anything from reading them, yet certain actions cause an unlock.

Has anybody else experienced this? Any ideas or suggestions as to what I
can do to track this down?

Thanks,

  Michael
