Hi,
I run into some problems using XFree86 on a RS/6000 B50:
kernel: 2.4.21
gcc: 3.2.3
glibc: 2.3.2
XFree: 4.3.99.5
- using the fbdev driver (on the OpenFirmware framebuffer) I only get
8bit with a incorrect color-table.
- the matrox framebuffer kernel driver doesn't seem to like to use the
card - it says "matroxfb: Matrox MGA-200 (PCI) detected" but does not
activate/switch to a matrox framebuffer (not like on e.g. an iBook
where the radeonfb driver takes over ...) - so I can't test whether
this would improve XFree ...
- using the mga driver in XFree does result in a quite messed up video
signal: just colored noise ...
I already googled for some time now, but I could only find out that X
on RS/6000 boxes seems to be touchy - and that the Matrox cards have
special problems and the open-firmware enabled Matrox version have
even more problems - but no solution.
Does anyone have some more information - or can I contribute in soem
way to improve this? E.g. maybe the XFree driver wan't to read the
video timing from a non-exitend BIOS, and we would need to add proper
non-BIOS depended timing programming code?
Sincerely yours,
