A question?
Do you have a TV output connected to the TV or VCR in your card?

If so disconnect the output from the TV before starting the PC.

Oggetto: [XFree86] RedHat 9.0 with an NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti400 graphics adaptor

Greetings,

When I replaced RedHat 8.0 with 9.0 on my system, the configuration of X failed.  My monitor, a ViewSonic VG171 would display "out-of-range."  My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4400.  RedHat support told me I have to download and install the current NVIDIA driver - which I have done.  The installation was successful, as far as I can tell.  RedHat does not supply /usr/X386/bin/xf86config, which I had several years experience with in my "slackware years" in the early to mid 90's.  When I run their "redhat-config-xfree86", I get the same "out-of-range" error on my display.

I had to install RedHat 9.0 in text mode.  Apparently, I can't use redhat-config-xfree86 unless I already have a "working" configuration file.  So, I think I have several options: i) I could obtain a copy of xf86config from you folks - if you tell me how - and create a configuration file, or ii) I could reinstall RedHat 8.0, configure X, copy the configuration files to floppies (or a CD), reinstall 9.0 and copy the files back in, or iii) edit the configuration files in my current 9.0 installation (if I could find out how) to allow me to startx, and then use the redhat-config program to tweak the configuration.

It is my sincere hope that one or more of your associates has some applicable experience and/or wisdom in this regard.

Thank you for your time and attention.
