I have created an XVirtualFrameBufferServer build as a regular user (not root) and have it started up. Please keep in mind I do not have 'root' access.
I am curious though how Xvfb works. I read that I need /dev/fb* devices to talk to. Is this true? Is the Xvfb related to the Framebuffer of the linux kernel?
I am having authorization rejections when connecting to my server. What I did was I looked into the /dev/fb* device permissions. I found that I do not have access to these devices, so I tried to create my own with mknod. I get 'Operation not permitted' errors. I'm guessing I need to be root to do this.
Is there anyone that can help me get the Xvfb working? I would like to use it to run automated tests on some java programs I am running on linux and require an X server.
