Dear Sir,

you are quite possibly missing the file
  /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a
that matches your current version of XFree86.

i suppose you have to get the latest XF86 library
package from the red hat ftp servers or some mirror
and install or upgrade to them.

i cant track that down in detail because i have
not telnet access to a RH 9.0 machine but only to 
an 8.0 machine. at least the lib presence or absence
is probably the most important point at the moment.
