[XFree86] Xfree86 problems

I try to start up Red Hat linux 9 and the screen flashes twice and then tells me theres a problem with X server. I am using a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra. Is there a way to choose which video thingy is loaded up to a different driver instead of VESA compatible which i dont think this one is because VESA hasn't been around forever.  Any help is appreciated. Thanks
