To be fair, it's probably more like the "Stupid DELL + a few other manufacturers BIOS bug". It's up to the manufacturer to produce a (working) BIOS for the memory stuff. You should also read this: http://www.chzsoft.com.ar/855patch.html and this: http://www.xfree86.org/~dawes/845driver.html Patches have been ioncorporated into CVS, so you could also try the 4.4 release candidate for a fix.
