i cannot read new fonts placed in my own ~/.fonts dir... argh!
first, as root and from the command prompt, i start "xfs &"
then, as MYSELF - still at the prompt, i start "xinit" which boots me into x with fluxbox as my window manager.
i then open up an xterm, and do:
MYHOME$xfsinfo xfsinfo: no font server defined
MYHOME$xfsinfo -server :7100
name of server: :7100
version number: 2
vendor string: The XFree86 Project (experimental version)
vendor release number: 6600
maximum request size: 8192 longwords (32768 bytes)
number of catalogues: 1
all
Number of alternate servers: 0
number of extensions: 0
sooo, i do have xfs running...as well as x however, after this:
cp "barcode.bdf" ~/.fonts cd ~/.fonts mkfontdir fc-cache -f
and then:
xlsfonts | grep -i barcode
no "barcode" font is recognized doing this, however, sees the font:
MYHOME$fc-list barcode font:style=Regular
is there perhaps a kind soul here on this list who maybe could tell me whether im doing something wrong, or whether i need to do something extra?
my guess is, as fontconfig and x are two different things, that i need to tell x something extra... though i have no idea what that has to be
oh, yes - and its xfree-4.4.0, where i did the "make world" myself...
