Addendum to following, reoccurring post: Somebody at Lest tell me how to uninstall and start over... Is this post getting through??
Put /Applications/XDarwin.app /usr/X11R6 and /etc/X11 to the trash.
Then download X11 from Apple and install this. It is based on XFree86 4.3, has some features from 4.4 too and works seamlessly on Mac OS X 10.3.
