i've a S3 graphic card whose model is 86C764 ( it uses S3 Trio 64 driver ) ...Its memory is 1MB
As for monitor, i've a HP D2825 Ultra VGA 1024
For Mandrake 8.2 ( which uses XFree86 v3.3.6 ), i can automatically login into linux & use it....
But when installing & trying to run Red Hat 8 ( which uses XFree86 v4.2 ) or Mandrake 10 ( which uses XFree86 v4.3.0.1 )....in BOTH cases, it's NOT able to automatically login...
Therefore, i login as 'root' & tried using 'xf86config' & then 'startx'....
I was given the error message below:
(ww) s3: No Matching Device Section
No Screens Found
1) How do i solve the above problem ? i really hope to run the 2 flavours of linux...
Do i need to find the rpm file for S3 for XFree86 v4.2 & v4.3.0.1 to solve the problem?
( currently i do have S3 rpm file for XFree86 v3.3.6...but i do not know whether
can i use it for XFree86 v4.x.x....also, if i can use it, how do i install it ?
2) Can i replace the XFree86 v4.2 ( that comes with Red Hat ) & XFree86 v4.3.0.1 ( that comes with Mandrake 10 ) with XFree86 v3.3.6 ( that comes with Mandrake 8.2 )? If yes, how do i install it at the login screen ?
