A very recent driver (like 4.4) isn't expected to work with
4.1.0, but something like 4.3 *might* if you pass the -ignoreABI
flag to the server at startup. Using older drivers with newer
servers usually works, but using newer drivers with an older server
is a gamble because newer drivers often use newer features of
the server. You can't do it by default, which is why you have
to use -ignoreABI. I think the "nv" driver started using some Xv helper
functions exported by the server a some point. Don't remember if
it was 4.3 or 4.4 that did that. It's probably binary compatible
to that point. Compiling a newer driver against an older server
tree probably requires that you comment out some Xv code to get it
to build.
