Cocoon has an XML:DB Connector that you can use to talk to Xindice. I don't believe it's built by default, and it may not be available in the most recent stable release, but you can access it via the Cocoon CVS repository.
The latest Cocoon CVS HEAD has the XML:DB pseudo-protocol compiled in by default. This means that it's possible to query directly any XML:DB compliant database using plain URLs (such as xmldb:dbxml://localhost/my/collection#//my/[EMAIL PROTECTED]). There are also a couple of generators, but I'd suggest not to use them since most probably they will be deprecated and dropped in favor of the new pseudo protocols.
