systemcollection and classgen

Hi,
        I noticed that the SystemCollection.java has 3 mentions of a 'classgen'.
But I can't figure out what its for.  There is no other references outside
of the class.  Can I safely delete these references?  Unless someone knows
of a reason to keep this member, I will remove it for clarity
