Good principle, but how on earth aren't metadata a "core" feature? This is what a database is all about, data and metadata. I can't really think of this particular topic as "pluggable" stuff: accessing and manipulating them might be done in several and pluggable ways, but there must be a "core" implementation somewhere (think of it as a "metadata store"). And we need to start somewhere...
Am I wrong?
