I have committed the Eclipse UI, gratiously contributed by Barbara Rosi-Schwartz and Joel Rosi-Schwartz. This is a great UI with a lot of functionality, with even more potential for any type of functionality you could ever want. I believe having a UI as nice as this will entice many new users, reducing the fear of managing a UI-less server.

Cool! Thanks a lot to Barbara and Joel for the donation.

Issues:
1. Committed to /java/scratchpad/ui-eclipse

Actually, I've just updated my copy, and it doesn't show up. Are you still committing it?

Should be committed, what are you using to get the files? Make sure you sync (in eclipse) or checkout with 'create directories'...?

2. Binary distributions. I would like to commit a binary somewhere for downloading. Can anyone tell me the procedure for this?

You mean just the UI? I understand it should be somehow "included" in Xindice, isn't that the case?

It is not necessary to be included. I believe it is another tool to be used for Xindice. Though it is part of the structure, I don't know that it should be in the main trunk for the server. It might actually be viable as an entirely separate Apache project, using XML:DB. For now, we can keep it here and move it later if it makes sense to.

Another note; we could bundle a stripped down Eclipse platform, with the plugin, branded as Xindice Server Managment UI!

3. Documenation. I will kick off this with a little documenation, and I'll try to include some screenshots. If anyone wants to help, please let me know.

I'll try to find some time to help you out, just bootstrap the docs and I'll add some "user" experience. :-)

I'm planning to commit sometime in the next 4 days:
1. install 2. screenshots

Oh, just as a side note: did you manage already to go through the paperwork for code donated to the ASF?

I did not (even know about that), where can I find info on that so I can take care of it?

Ciao,
