1.1 release documentation

I'm looking at the status of 1.1 in preparation for posting some builds 
and I noticed that the README file hasn't been updated since the last 
time I updated it (which was a while ago). I'm not clear on what has 
changed so I need some help to get this thing updated. So what has 
changed since I last updated that file?

Actually, in general if there is any other documentation that we can 
get into this release please submit it. In particular I don't see any 
documentation on how to install this thing now. Am I just missing it?
