Oh well... I was perfectly happy of my webapp but this morning, when I moved it to a Solaris machine (it was developed on a W2K box) I found encoding issues which are even worse. Now every 8-bit character is converted to a question mark!
I gave a look at the .tbl files and it seems that this time the string is screwed up right inside the DB. I'm going to investigate if there are any other encoding hotspots in document loading, but maybe you guys know exactly where the problem might be.
