Title: Intl characters issues relating to Unicode and UTF-8

I've looked at and written some corrections for a number of UTF-8-related issues
in Xindice.

However, as I'm quite new to the sources, I wonder if one of the more "senior" developers
could have a look at it. I posted a much more detailed message to the xindice-dev
mailing list.
